Tumor Registrars Association of Connecticut, Inc.Job BankSenior Cancer Registrar Date submitted: 5/20/2008 Yale-New Haven Hospital We are currently seeking a Cancer Registrar to serve as the senior member of the Tumor Registry staff. Job responsibilities include training and reviewing the work of other staff, carrying out quality control procedures, and performing complex coding of tumor abstracts of cancer diagnosis, including staging, treatment and recurrences for both “new” and “old” cases of varying complexity--some with subsequent malignancies. Candidate will also perform other tasks, as outlined by the Director, to ensure that the department is able to operate and fulfill its mission in a safe and efficient manner. Candidate will also be held accountable for making accurate decisions based on various cancer patient reports and must effectively train new employees in abstracting anatomical, physiological and treatment information, to be entered on the tumor record and in the computer. Maintaining confidentiality of medical information is extremely crucial and is expected in this position. Associates’ degree (or an equivalent, supplemented by courses in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology) and 5 years’ experience in Tumor Registry/equivalent is required. Candidate must also have knowledge of medical terminology and a thorough understanding of the International Classification of Disease Oncology. Cancer Registry Records Analyst Date submitted: 6/16/2008 Hartford Hospital / Hartford Hospital Health Care Corporation Position Summary: We are currently seeking a Cancer Registry Records Analyst to abstract codes and enter data into cancer registry software system in order to comply with state law. Reports to Manager, Cancer Registry. Job responsibilities include: Analysis and abstracting details of cancer cases by reviewing medical records and by contacting physicians and other hospital registries to ensure only information relevant to the cancer is entered into the software system. Codes cancer information, treatment, and patient demographics by following established ICD0 coding system and medical classification scheme (ICD0, SEER, etc.) and Registry Operations and Data Standards established by the American College of Surgeons to comply with state law governing reportable diseases and to meet the standards for designation as an approved program of the American College of Surgeons. Retrieves data and, when appropriate, summarizes information obtained from the database for qualified researchers and users of the data in order to assist the users with their studies. Performs Quality Control on other analysts' abstracts by reviewing and cross-checking colleague's work to ensure accuracy and completeness. Qualifications: HS graduate. Certified Tumor Registrar preferred. 2 years experience in accredited cancer registry. Knowledge of medical classification systems. Knowledge of site specific tumor biology, staging and treatment, and Medical Terminology. Accurate keyboard skills essential, knowledge of relational databases strongly preferred.
